NOVO were approached by Eco-Res to provide Mechanical and Electrical consultancy services after Eco-Res received recommendations from another of our clients.
Our appointment was to carry out the performance design of the 173 bed student residence in Aberdeen.
The development, designed by GWP Architects, also required a BREEAM assessment, with the client and design team aspiring to and achieving an “OUTSTANDING” rating. As a result of this, the scheme was shortlisted for a BREEAM 2018 award, in the in the commercial design stage category, as one of the best examples of sustainable design over the year.
As well as the effect of the BREEAM rating the project required a minimum of 25% betterment between Target and Building Emission Rates. This was achieved by the use of Combined Heat & Power plant, LED lighting, Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation systems and working with the architect to provide optimal u-values and low air permeability.
