Local Blackfriars is a gated community comprising 380 apartments, townhouses and penthouses across two striking towers. These are architecturally blended into a Grade II-listed former public house – the Blackfriars – which has been repurposed as a gateway entrance.
Local Blackfriars is the sister-scheme of the Local Crescent in Salford.
Planning permissions were attained in 2015, and from July 2015, the design team have worked to provide a robust detail design, enabling tenders to be sought and work to commence on site in 2017.
NOVO were appointed to provide Mechanical and Electrical consultancy services to provide RIBA Stage D+ duties for the production of design drawings and specification for the new development.
The project is prominent in Salford and as a result has met the Salford Council Sustainability requirements through the use of LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, district heating systems fed from CHP and high efficiency boilers, and a central waste system for each block that shall separate food, general and recyclable wastes.
