A Word on Work Experience Week

Updated: Feb 1, 2019

On Monday 2nd July, the NOVO Team were joined by one ambitious student of St Mary’s School, Menston, for a week of invaluable work experience.

Elliot*, aged 17, joined us amid his first year of A level studies after our ongoing relationship with the academy led to his placement. Elliot aspires to follow his fathers’ footsteps in becoming a successful Electrical Design Engineer and joined us to experience first-hand a week in the life of an engineer.

As the week concluded, we asked Elliot how his experience has been, what he has enjoyed the most and what he has learned.

"I have enjoyed my time very much at NOVO Integration. When I first arrived on Monday everyone in the office was very welcoming and kind, making me feel very comfortable in the office environment.

I have been specifically working with the Electrical side of the team on jobs throughout my week, learning a variety of key skills. I have mostly been working on lighting calculations and lighting design for ongoing projects such as Outwood Academy Ripon and Icon Inc which have contributed to myself gaining practical work life experience.

I have further developed my team working skills which will help me in future daily life and my ability to develop good relationships with colleagues in the office such as Chris and Dan, who are part of the electrical team and have helped me out all week.

I am very grateful for my time at NOVO Integration and it has brought me a wider range of opportunities to think about for a future career."

All members of staff found Elliot to be a pleasure to work with and would like to wish him the very best in his studies. We have confidence in his potential and hope to see him succeed in his endeavour to become an engineer.

We are pleased to have been able to provide him with the perspective he requires to make decisions about his university choices and career options, at this key turning point in his life.
